Supported by the City of Edinburgh Council, Love Music Community Choir calls the iconic Usher Hall its home. The largest community choir in the UK, all you need to be part of the choir is a love of singing. Choir repertoire can include anything from Mozart to Joy Division, with its eclectic music choices often reflecting the Usher Hall’s programme. The choir is ambitious, fearless and fun! Led by Love Music’s inspiring and celebrated Artistic Director Stephen Deazley, the choir has Scottish jazz legend Dave Milligan as its resident pianist. Performances have involved three Usher Hall concerts each year, as well as flash mobs for Blondie and Rufus Wainwright, and a surprise appearance at the Commonwealth Games Gala Concert.
You can sign up to join and read about choir members’ experiences of the choir on the choir website. To celebrate 10 years together, and to give a flavour of the choir, we commissioned this film.
From summer 2020, the choir sang together online welcoming 91 new members and working with professional artists living in Berlin, Benidorm and on Lismore! We made some lovely recordings together, which you can watch on the choir’s website. In 2021, we developed a hybrid model with some of the choir singing in the Usher Hall and a live broadcast to Zoom and YouTube for those singing at home.
