~ March 2013
The popularity of our latest project, Love Music Community Choir, has taken us by surprise. With over 400 registering interest within a couple of weeks, we have been forced to restrict the number of available places in the first term, capping available places at 250. There is a good reason for this.
As well existing as a non-auditioned, musically eclectic experiment in massed community singing, we have other goals. We want the choir to be a truly inclusive project that is wholly representative of the city of Edinburgh.
We plan to begin a city-wide outreach programme, providing support, help and encouragement for individuals and groups from Edinburgh’s diverse communities to be able to join us.
At the end of our first year we hope to have 350 singers, representing a broad demographic and social reach.
Our partnership with the Usher Hall is amazing. Not only do we rehearse on one of the finest stages in the country, only four weeks after our first session the legendary singer-songwriter Richard Thompson is name-checking us at his Edinburgh concert, and dedicating his encore to the choir. Not bad.
A huge thanks to the management and staff at the Usher Hall for making us feel so at home.
Come and join us at 8.30pm on Tuesday 26th March for our first public event at the Usher Hall – the concert will be a short 30 minute informal presentation of our work so far.
I’ll look forward to seeing you there!
Stephen
