5 workshops down and 5 to go.
There is less than one month to go before our latest presentation and performance of Punkit. The trailer says “an explosive, fun, 20-minute participative music work for massed percussion”. It certainly is that, but it is also so much more.
Our 60 brave, adventurous performers from Wester Hailes – renamed “Punkiteers” – are raising our expectations of what young people can achieve in this project. Combined primary 7 classes from Sighthill and Clovenstone schools have demonstrated real tenacity getting to grips with the exciting challenges and demands of the project, developing new listening and rhythm skills.
Recapping a newly learned track METAL HEADS at our last session, both schools nailed a run through without falter, and in both schools, the rehearsal ended with spontaneous whoops of delight as they realized what they had just done. Self-confidence is on the rise, as is their collective ambition to keep pushing the quality of the performance higher and higher.
Add to this, our first PUNKIT event which includes our 300 strong Love Music Community Choir, and we have one of those tantalizing and life-changing moments in the offing. 7.30pm, Tuesday 13th June at the Usher Hall – mark it in your diary! Ticket link below.
Our participants and partner organisations energise us to keep investing in and producing our work at Love Music. We do it together – a great big, friendly, growing community – and I feel we keep challenging ourselves, like the P7 classes, to raise our sights higher.
