Ruth Davie, Managing Director

Ruth is co-founder of Love Music and has been producing arts projects since she was at school, initially as part of her high school drama productions and then by founding her own music ensembles and promoting their concerts. She enjoyed studying music at Huddersfield University and was inspired by the music she heard, and the people she met at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival each year. Equipped with her first class honours degree, she jumped at the opportunity to work at HCMF, and to learn from her incredible colleagues there.

Since she moved north to Edinburgh, Ruth worked mostly as a freelancer for music organisations, including: East Neuk Festival Producer for 9 years and Retreat Manager for 3 years, Edinburgh International Festival Artist Liaison for 10 years, The Cumnock Tryst Festival Manager and Concert Manager, Scottish Ensemble Concert Manager, Festival of British Youth Orchestras Festival Manager, and Orchestra Librarian and Marketing Officer for Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Ruth also thrives on supporting individual artists in the realisation of their projects from concept to performance, and in doing this has enjoyed working on events including: A Celebration Concert for the life of Hester Dickson (with Malcolm Martineau, 2016); The Benedetti Sessions (with Nicola Benedetti for Glasgow UNESCO City of Music, 2014); Silent Echoes (with Bill Fontana for Glasgow Music, 2013); Man High (with Stephen Deazley, Martin Parker & Andy McGregor, 2012); Matthew Herbert’s One Pig Scotland Tour (2012).

Ruth began working with Love Music in 2009, when she took on the management and production for Love Music Festival. The huge scale, many intricacies and exceptional learning outcomes of that project continue to inspire her in producing Love Music projects and managing the organisation. She now works for Love Music almost full time and leads on strategy, finance, fundraising and production.

Other things she loves include collaborating with others, spreadsheets, creating websites, design, food, running, being outdoors, being creative, her piano, and making things.
